Who we are and what we're doing.

About us

Living Space is a registered charity dedicated to ending homelessness in Timmins by providing services, shelter, project coordination, and planning. The organization was created by passionate community partners who came together in 2017 with a commitment to ending homelessness in Timmins.

Living Space is both a strategic partnership and a physical space. The aim of the partnership is to end chronic homelessness in Timmins by 2025 through the realignment and coordination of services. These services are made available to the community through the physical location of Living Space.

Ending homelessness in Timmins means working collaboratively across sectors to respond to local priorities and address barriers that impede the prevention and elimination of homelessness.

Limited overnight services launched in January 2018, and in May 2019, Living Space opened its doors as the first 24/7/365 free emergency shelter in Timmins and created a community hub, bridging the gap to make services more accessible for those experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

What drives us.

Our vision is to end chronic homelessness in Timmins and area by 2025.

Our mission is to promote, coordinate, and provide services that alleviate and prevent homelessness.

Our Values

We respect and celebrate people’s ability to decide their own recovery goals and choose how/how not to participate with services.

We meet people where they are and provide service in a manner that respects diversity and choice.

We ensure services are developed with a bottom-up approach and strive to support community-led initiatives in the development and delivery of services.

We are cost-efficient, transparent, and sustainable. We hold ourselves and our partners accountable to providing high quality and accessible services.

We work to move new ideas forward for the betterment of the community. We address and stand against stigma and discrimination.

We protect the Living Space brand and practice accountability in all actions of the organization.

We make decisions with the best interest of the community and organization in mind.

We work to bring diverse stakeholders together around shared challenges and common goals.

We maximize the impact of public and private resources in our community by establishing shared goals and service models.

We believe that the best path to accomplishing our vision is through partnership with public and private organizations and members of our community.

We believe that relationships with partners and guests need to be open, trusting, and frank.

We respect diversity and work with various stakeholders to build meaningful partnerships. We encourage the participation of historically marginalized groups in the development and operation of Living Space.

The Living Space brand is centered on its logo, which features an icon we call the gap, a simple holding shape referencing the social chasm that must be bridged while solving homelessness. In the past, it has been used as a symbol indicating to others that you are safe here. Living Space is just that — a safe space for people to turn to.
